Have a silly roadside stop off I-80 between Sacramento and the Bay Area? Please tell me

Randall Benton / Sacramento Bee file

As those of us who use California’s highway system know, the freeway is often the site of misery. Tormented commuters are snarled in congestion and horrific crashes wreak havoc. In its finest moments, when traffic flows easily, the freeway is merely a place where cars cough toxic pollution into the air.

Sometimes, you just need a break from the road.

That is why The Sacramento Bee is now asking you, our readers: What delightful roadside attractions should draw us off I-80 between the capital city and the Bay Area?

Is there a particular nut stand with can’t-miss pistachios? A rock store in Vacaville? A toad tunnel in Davis? The largest brackish marsh on the West Coast?

We are working on a list of the silliest, most fun and totally unexpected roadside stops between Sacramento and the Bay Area. Please help us by filling out the form below and letting us know what has lured you off the freeway. You can also email suggested stops or poems about the hay bale Minions in Dixon to me — Ariane Lange — at alange@sacbee.com.

We’ll follow up with a story that highlights the best picks.
