Sheriff: Wayne County under Level 2 snow emergency; only drive if necessary

With heavy snowfall overnight continuing today, Wayne County Sheriff Travis Hutchinson has issued a Level 2 snow advisory this morning.

Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out, the advisory warns.

A winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday calling for heavy, wet snow overnight into Monday. The warning will remain in effect until 10 a.m. today with an additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches bringing total accumulations to 7 to 14 inches, according to the NWS, which added that the heaviest snow will occur through 8 a.m. with snowfall rates up to 1 inches per hour that will taper off after that time.

The warning also includes Holmes County, as well as the surrounding counties of Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Trumbull, Stark and Mahoning.

The NWS website says to plan on slippery, hazardous road conditions that will impact the morning commute.
