Sports stars including Julius “Dr. J” Erving gathered at the North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks on Monday to raise money for charity in the Phil Oates Celebrity Golf Classic.
The event raised more than $400,000 for charities in the Sacramento area according to Phil Oates, minority owner of the Sacramento Kings. Oates is the son of legendary real estate developer Marvin L. “Buzz” Oates and chairman of the company that bears his father’s name.
“The goal is to merge the iconic people I’ve been able to meet — especially since buying the Kings in 2018 — with the wonderful people and friends I have here in Sacramento,” said Oates. “It’s been a great pleasure to do this tournament.”
