Schitt’s Creek in Wichita? No, make that Sheet’s Creek, a new Waterfront restaurant

For quite some time, Mort’s owner Morrie Sheets has been looking for an east-side sister site to his popular downtown bar, and he’s finally found it at the Waterfront.

In about 14 weeks, he’s opening a bar and restaurant at 1720 N. Webb Road where Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Alliance most recently was and Ciao Italian Kitchen and Piztro’s once were.

“It’s going to be a very upscale Mort’s,” Sheets said.

He’s going to have some fun with it, too, such as naming it Sheet’s Creek — a play on the Schitt’s Creek TV show.

Why that name?

“I don’t know, I think I was drinking,” Sheets said.

There also happens to be a creek behind the building.

“That’s why we came up with Creek,” Sheets said.

There is a new patio overlooking the creek, and that will be a big focus of the business.

The outside will be more of a bar atmosphere with music and cigar smoking in a designated area.

Inside, the focus will be on food, though there will be a wide opening from the dining room onto the patio.

A couple of chefs are working on a menu, which will feature a variety of salads, sandwiches, seafood, pasta and a burger or two along with steak.

“There is not going to be a $68 filet on there, nor is there going to be pizza,” Sheets said. “We’re catering to those people who don’t want to go out and spend $300 on dinner.”

He said there will be good wine and premium liquor at reasonable prices, which he said is unlike a lot of other places.

“They overcharge everybody on the east side of town.”

Some employees from Mort’s will be involved in the new venture.

“It’ll be the same type service you get at Mort’s,” Sheets said.

Unlike Mort’s, he said Sheet’s Creek isn’t “going to do bang-out music.”

“I do have neighbors, and many of them are friends, and I’ve given them my word that I wouldn’t have Chicago playing on the patio or any big band.”

The business will be open from 3 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday. Live music will start at 7 or 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m.

It will be open until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with music ending at midnight.

On Saturday and Sunday, it will open at 11 a.m. or earlier depending what time games are on TV.

There will be room for almost 90 people inside and about 80 outside, though that number could change since Sheets is considering adding a fireplace.

There will be fountains and lights as well, he said.

“It’ll be just kind of a nice little getaway place.”
