SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo crowns Miss Rodeo SandHills

Nov. 9—A new Miss Rodeo SandHills will continue the tradition at the 2024 SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo. Aspen Wash, 23 years old from Alpine, was recently crowned 2024 Miss Rodeo SandHills. The coronation was part of a two-day event that included a horsemanship competition, a speech, and an interview.

Wash graduated from Sul Ross University, where she was an officer on the Rodeo Team, Equine Club, and Collegiate FFA. As Miss Rodeo SandHills, Wash will represent and participate in several events during the stock show and rodeo. From carrying the American Flag during the rodeo performances to being part of the livestock championship moments, Wash will be part of the action, a news release said.

Wash is a proud member of the West of the Pecos Cattlewomen, UPRA, and Friends of the Alpine Public Library. She is an Animal Health Inspector for the Texas Animal Health Commission and a member of The Foundation for Western Professionals. Wash started as a barrel racer and expanded into goat tying, team roping, and breakaway roping. She has held numerous rodeo queen titles and was on the dean's list for multiple semesters. In her free time, Wash works to improve her horsemanship by riding young horses, learning bit mechanics, participating in rodeos. She is also an amateur snowboarder and a novice leather worker.

Joining Wash will be 2024 Miss Rodeo SandHills Teen Suzette Trujillo and Miss Rodeo SandHills Princess Paisley Hopper. Trujillo is 19 years old from Gardendale. She attends the University of Texas Permian Basin, where she is involved in Mariachi Halcones and is a Student Photographer. Hopper is 13 years old from Aubrey. She attends Aubrey Middle School, where she is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and is second-chair clarinet in the band. Hopper participates in the North Pointe Volleyball Club in Denton and is a member of the local FFA.

2023 Miss Rodeo Texas Brylee Johnson, who also was 2023 Miss Rodeo SandHills, served as the mistress of ceremony. Johnson and her court, Miss Rodeo SandHills Teen Kye Lynn Tomlinson, and 2023 Miss Rodeo SandHills Princess Ryleigh Rodrigues were all on hand to help crown the new rodeo royalty.
