Saints Are Reportedly Signing 2 Veteran Cornerbacks
As the New Orleans Saints continue training camp, they want to keep augmenting that defensive backfield. So they’re bringing on a few veteran faces to lend a hand.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Saints are signing two veteran cornerbacks after physicals. Per the report they’re adding Prince Amukamara and KeiVarae Russell following workouts they had on Sunday.
Amukamara is the most notable of the two, boasting a decade of NFL experience after going No. 19 overall to the New York Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft. He won a ring with the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI but has bounced around the league for the last few years.
Russell was a third-round pick by the Chiefs in the 2016 NFL Draft. But in five years he’s played in just 21 games and started one. He’s played in just one game in the last two seasons.
Pending the results of physicals, the Saints are planning to sign veteran CBs Prince Amukamara and KeiVarae Russell off of Sunday’s workouts.

The New Orleans Saints defense ranked top five in points and yards for only the second time in Sean Payton’s tenure as head coach. But it wasn’t enough to get the Saints to the NFC Championship Game as they fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.
The Saints secondary has let the team down in the playoffs multiple times over the past few years. While they do have stars, they will need an extra boost.
2021 will mark the start of a new era in New Orleans now that Drew Brees is gone.
