The location of the new Topgolf facility planned for Natomas just north of downtown Sacramento was revealed at an open house event Wednesday night.

The new location will be located just off Interstate 5, West El Camino Avenue and Venture Oaks Way, according to the Facebook page of Sacramento City Councilwoman Karina Talamantes, whose district includes the area.

It will be located between two hotels, a Residence Inn and Hilton Garden Inn, roughly a mile north of the American River and the edge of the Railyards district north of downtown. It will be southeast of the Gateway Plaza strip mall.

The opening date has not yet been announced, but the popular golf and entertainment chain is expected to draw crowds. Talamantes, who first announced the new Topgolf location earlier this month, wrote it will expect about 250,000 visitors per year. She said on her Facebook page Wednesday it will feature two stories and 60 hitting bays.

Roughly 100 residents visited the open house on Wednesday, Talamantes wrote, with many having questions about traffic. “So we want to share that it’s expected to generate just 130 trips per hour, much less than a typical grocery store of similar size,” she said.

Topgolf, which is owned by golf brand Callaway, will likely compete with local golf courses and driving ranges, as well as its sister location that opened in Roseville in 2016. That location is roughly 23 miles north and a half-hour drive (in light traffic) from downtown Sacramento.

Local courses such as Haggin Oaks and Bing Maloney have recently invested in “Toptracer” technology, the same that’s used at Topgolf, at their driving ranges that use camera sensors and touch screens to track ball flight, launch angles and ball speeds. Haggin Oaks recently built a drink shack at its range allowing customers to buy beverages, which created an atmosphere similar to Topgolf without the fees.

Topgolf has roughly 80 locations worldwide including four in California, in Ontario, El Segundo, Roseville and San Jose, the last of which opened in 2021. Another new location is being built in Burlingame to serve the San Francisco area, scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
