Earlier this afternoon, the basketball world was stunned to learn that star point guard Russell Westbrook was reportedly on the move.

NBA insider Shams Charania revealed the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards agreed to a trade that would send Westbrook to Los Angeles. The Lakers were reportedly his “preferred destination” and the Wizards made it happen.

After being traded yet again, Westbrook took to social media with a message for Wizards fans.

“Thank you DC! You welcomed my family and I with open arms from day one,” Westbrook said in the post. “Everyone from the front office, to the training staff, the coaches, my teammates, and the fans.”

“I’m grateful y’all took a chance on me and supported me every step of the way,” he continued. “I’m blessed to have been a part of such a stand up organization. It didn’t take long to make a home in DC, and I will forever be grateful and appreciative of my experience with the organization. Thank you!”

The Wizards received Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the No. 22 pick in tonight’s NBA draft in return for Westbrook.

Now the star point guard will pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Lakers will be favored to make a run in the Western Conference once again next season.
