Rollinsford man killed in crash on rural Maine road
Aug. 12—A Rollinsford man was killed early Saturday and two others hurt when a pickup truck swerved off a road in rural Maine, state police said.
Benjamin Harvey, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, on Golden Road in T3 Indian Purchase Township, Maine State Police said Monday.
Harvey was a passenger in the back of the Toyota Tacoma, being driven by William Tobey, 33, also from Rollinsford.
Tobey suffered minor injuries, while a third occupant of the pickup truck, 24-year-old Benjamin Farquhar of Millinocket, was transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Maine state police said an initial investigation indicates the three men were traveling west on Golden Road around 12:30 a.m. in a gray 2023 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when it swerved off one side of the road, then crossed over before going off the road on the other side.
The truck hit a group of trees and rolled onto its side, state police said in a release.
Investigators don't believe any of the vehicle's occupants were wearing a seatbelt, and police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
The crash remains under investigation.
