The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will begin their Super Bowl defense in just over a month’s time when they kick off against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 9. With Tom Brady back under center and almost the entirety of the title roster back in place, the club figures to be one of the favorites to lift the Lombardi Trophy again next February.

But Rob Gronkowski knows that this upcoming campaign won’t be easy for his team. Coming off of a Super Bowl victory, the veteran tight end recognizes that the Bucs will have a huge target on their back and can’t get complacent with last year’s title.

“I mean coming off a championship season, that’s huge,” Gronkowski said, per the Buccaneers. “It’s definitely a different vibe because you have to leave that in the past. You’ve got to learn how to leave that in the past. Yes, it was great to celebrate and all — we had our time to celebrate, but that’s in the past — it’s a whole new season now. So, you’ve got to find ways to just put it in the back our your mind to just throw it back there.

“This is a whole new season — we have a target on our back. We’ve got to find ways to get better, find ways to improve, I’ve got to find ways to go out there and be consistent on a daily basis. You’ve just got to keep finding ways to step up your game because you have a target on your back as a whole and you’ve just got to keep improving. You can’t have any setbacks thinking, ‘Great, that’s all in the past.”

Gronkowski obviously knows a thing or two about winning in the NFL as he’s now been a part of four championship rosters. In Super Bowl LV, the 32-year-old tight end showed up in a major way by making six catches for 67 yards. He scored two touchdowns in the Buccaneers rout of the Kansas City Chiefs.

After winning another title a year after stepping away from football, Gronkowski now has plans to add to his stuffed resumé in 2021. The veteran tight end claims to be in good health early on in training camp, which bodes well for the Buccaneers heading into the start of the regular season.

“Yeah, it feels good, it feels good to have that nice little offseason to heal up, to work on things that you need to work on,” he said. “But (I) feel good, I had a solid three days to practice — just going out there like it was any other time. Just running around, catching balls, blocking and all that. But (I) feel good overall and ready to roll man.”
