Residents evacuated as fire destroys condos in Nipomo’s Blacklake community

A residential fire destroyed two units and severely damaged two others at a condominium building in Nipomo on Thursday morning.

The units were fully engulfed in flame when Cal Fire arrived on the scene at 10:58 a.m., Cal Fire spokesperson Toni Davis said. All occupants of the residences had evacuated the building by that time.

“It was heavy fire when they got here,” she said.

The fire eventually spread to the attic and the roof collapsed, Davis said.

By noon, firefighters had extinguished the fire in two units, but were still battling the blaze inside the other two units, she said.

The fire was contained to the original building.

Damages will likely total more than $2 million, Davis said.

No one was injured in the fire.

Cal Fire was not expected to release any equipment on scene for at least two hours, she added.

Cal Fire, Five Cities Fire Authority, San Luis Obispo City Fire Department, Santa Maria Fire Department and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the blaze.
