In April, the San Francisco 49ers were listed as a potential landing spot for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. A trade never materialized, but it sounds like the rumors led to some drama between the two coaching staffs.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Silver, there was actually some serious tension between 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur due to the rumors involving Rodgers.

LaFleur reportedly felt like Rodgers’ agency was plotting his departure from Green Bay since they also represent 49ers general manager John Lynch.

“The fact that Rodgers and Niners GM John Lynch share an agent, David Dunn, contributed to the perception that there had been a coordinated effort to get Rodgers from the Packers to the Niners,” Silver said. “And to Mike LaFleur, blood is clearly thicker than water.”

Shanahan, meanwhile, thought he was simply doing his due diligence on behalf of the 49ers by checking in on Rodgers’ situation.

Silver noted that LaFleur and Shanahan have been downplaying their rift since the Packers and 49ers will meet on Sunday night. However, it sounds like LaFleur was seriously bothered by Shanahan’s actions.

Kickoff for the 49ers-Packers game is at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
