Report: Clear Expectation Emerges For Zach Ertz Situation
Hold the phones on the Philadelphia Eagles trading tight end Zach Ertz — for the time being at least.
Ertz has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to last season. Back in May, it was reported that Ertz was going to stay away from the Eagles until “he was released or traded.”
Well, with the start of training camp now days away, longtime Philadelphia media member Howard Eskin now says there is a “great chance” Ertz will be on the Eagles’ roster at the start of the season. He expects the veteran pass catcher to be in attendance when camp opens on Tuesday.
“Zach has been working out in team facility for close to last two weeks with teammates,” Eskin tweeted. “He’s over the issues.”

What caused this change of plans? Well, Bleeding Green’s Brandon Lee Gowton theorizes that it could be as simple as the Eagles not finding a satisfactory enough offer for Ertz, who is entering the final year of his contract.
Ertz is still due $8.5 million in salary in 2021, so it might make sense for him to just finish out his deal rather than try to force a release. The Eagles could also always reverse course and trade him at some point before the October deadline.
A second-round draft pick in 2013, Ertz made the Pro Bowl three years in a row from 2017-19. However, injuries limited him to 36 receptions for 335 yards and one touchdown last season.
