Rain returns to Kansas City region. Here’s where, when snow, freezing drizzle is possible

Rain is expected to return to the Kansas City region Thursday, bringing the chance for snow and freezing drizzle to parts of Kansas and Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.

But before the rain arrives, warmer conditions are expected across the area with temperatures climbing to around 50 degrees in the metro on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather service said.

The rain is expected to spread across the region from the south late Thursday afternoon and continue through Friday morning.

While most areas will see some precipitation, the bulk of the rain is expected to remain east of Interstate 35. Between a half to an inch of rain is expected in the Kansas City metro area.

Rain will be the primary type of precipitation, but there is a possibility for some wintry mix in parts of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri early Friday, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

All types of precipitation will be possible, including freezing rain and snow. There’s a chance that dry air moves in before temperatures drop low enough for the wintry mix to develop. Any accumulations and impacts are expected to be minor, the weather service said.

Temperatures on Friday will be in the upper 30s. There is a slight chance for a light wintry mix of rain and snow Friday night from the Kansas City metro to the north across northwest Missouri, the weather service said.

Partly to mostly sunny conditions return for the weekend, with temperatures reaching the mid- to upper 40s, which is normal for this time of year in Kansas City.
