Portsmouth eliminated at Legion regional

Aug. 9—The Portsmouth Booma Post No. 6's stay at the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional is over. Trevor Tanis's one-out bunt single in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home Jack Kane from third base and allowed West Hartford, Connecticut, to walk off with a 6-5 victory over the New Hampshire champs on Friday at Gill Stadium in Manchester.

The loss was the second straight for Portsmouth, which won its opener in the double-elimination tournament.

Portsmouth carried a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning before the Connecticut champs rallied for four runs in the inning to take a 5-4 lead. Portsmouth answered in the top of the seventh on Tim Avery's RBI single, tying the game at 5-5.

Avery finished with two hits and two runs scored.
