Politicians react to Supreme Court's marriage equality ruling
Only minutes after the Supreme Court declared Friday that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United State, politicians took to social media to express their opinions.
Focus immediately shifted to the 2016 presidential candidates as well as prominent figures currently in office. Their reactions ranged from ecstasy to bitter disappointment. The major decision became an opportunity to promote their ideals and support their respective platforms.
Twitter was where Obama first reacted before giving an official speech in the Rose Garden.
The Supreme Court's decision came down to a 5-4 vote in favor of legalizing marriage equality, and on Twitter both sides of the argument were presented by the political figures.
Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins
