Police in Austin, Texas, announced on Thursday that Texas linebacker Jake Ehlinger is dead.

Austin police say they received a call Thursday afternoon before finding his body near the University of Texas campus, the Austin American-Statesman reports. No cause of death was released. Police don't consider the death "suspicious," according to the report.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian issued statements on Ehlinger's death.

"Our hearts are truly broken, and we are just devastated today to learn of the passing of our Longhorn family member Jake Ehlinger," Del Conte's statement reads. "Jake was an amazing young man from an extraordinary family with such a bright future ahead of him."

"Jake was a tremendous person and was everything you could ask for in a student-athlete," Sarkisian's statement reads. "Being a Longhorn meant everything to him, and he truly embodied all that it means to be one."

Ehlinger's brother was Texas QB, Colts draft pick

Ehlinger is the younger brother of ex-Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in last week's NFL draft. Their father Ross Ehlinger died in 2013 of an apparent heart attack while running a triathlon. He was 46 years old.

The Colts announced that Sam was returning to Austin to be with his family.

"There are no magic words in these moments, but all we can do is be there to love and support Sam," head coach Frank Reich said, per a statement. "We will do everything we can. With Sam, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his mother and his sister as they mourn the tragic death of Sam's brother, Jake."

Jake was a rising junior after arriving at Texas in 2019. He didn't play during his two seasons at Texas.
