Police investigate possible road rage shooting near south Fort Worth high school

Fort Worth police are investigating a shooting possibly motivated by road rage that took place near a high school late Tuesday morning, officials said.

Southwest High School, at 4100 Altamesa Blvd. in south Fort Worth, was not put on lockdown but was placed in “secure status,” according to school officials. Police said they don’t have a reason to believe the shooting was connected to the school or students.

Investigators believe a shooter in a vehicle fired shots at another car.

MedStar told the Star-Telegram that two women were injured, with one in serious condition. The other woman had minor injuries. The women went to an urgent care center on McCart Avenue and were transported from there by ambulance to a trauma center.

A 911 caller reported at 11:52 a.m. that at least one person was shot, according to a police call log. The other victim was believed to have been grazed by gunfire.

Police confirmed to the Star-Telegram that an arrest was made, but the suspect had not been booked into the jail Tuesday afternoon and details of the suspect’s identity and potential charges were not released.

Southwest High School is part of the Fort Worth school district. In a message to parents, Fort Worth ISD wrote, “After the local police department assessed the situation and determined our campus was no longer at risk, the secure status was lifted. After consulting with the Fort Worth Police Department, we learned that the incident did not involve any Southwest High School students or staff members.”

The campus resumed normal operations for the rest of the school day, according to the message.
