Earlier this year, Peyton Manning was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in his first year of eligibility. The accomplishment marked the culmination of the five-time MVP’s incredible career that will have him go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

However, his résumé on the field hasn’t meant that he’s been immediately well-received as a coach in youth football.

In an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday, Manning explained that some parents seemed hesitant to let him step in as a coach for his children’s various youth sports team. The retired quarterback shared with Clarkson that he coaches his son’s flag football team and helps out with his daughter’s softball team.

He thinks that the reason for the hesitancy dates back to 2007, when he was involved in a Saturday Night Live skit that showed him being tough on kids while playing football.

“Some of the parents, I think, of the other kids on the team were a little hesitant at first because the last time they really saw me ever doing any coaching was on this Saturday Night Live skit where I was pegging 7-year-old kids in the head with footballs,” Manning recounted of the skit.

“And I think parents are like, ‘Are we sure we want our kid to play on your team?'” he continued. “Like, it was Saturday Night Live! It was a spoof skit. Relax. I’m not gonna do that to your kid. Probably not.”

The 2007 SNL skit with Manning was hilarious and a fan favorite back in the day. Here’s another look, in case you’ve forgotten the bit:

Obviously Manning doesn’t treat the kids on his children’s teams like he does in the skit, but it’s hard to blame parents for being worried. The Hall of Famer’s acting is impressive, making it somewhat believable that he’d actually act that way.

It might be difficult for Manning to shake that SNL perception of him, but any parent hoping for their child to improve at football and have a good time would be lucky to have the quarterback on the sidelines, leading the way.
