'We the People' on stage this weekend

A cast of 24 Tibbits Young Audiences actors are bringing “We the People” to the Tibbits stage this weekend.

Show are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5 and on sale at Tibbits.org or by calling (517) 278-6029

Patriotic songs dominate the story as “the committee” of six plan a celebration, honoring the United States of America.

Committee members are played by Ashlyn Abrey, Isabel Christoper, Molly Foster, Taylor Fraley, Ivy Witmer and Lily Witmer.

Most are seasoned performers who have been in six or seven Tibbits Young Audiences shows. Ashlyn is the exception, this is her second show.

“I like how they’ve done a lot of things different with this show,” Molly said. “We all bring our own costumes. It’s loose — it’s different than what we’ve done.”

Ashlyn said, “I like how I act older than I am. We’re supposed to be adults so that’s fun.”

Ivy likes working with other actors selected for “the committee.”

“It’s easer to act when you know everybody,” she said.

Bethany Uetrecht and Gemma Johnson are both in their first Tibbits production.

Bethany has been in plays at church “and it was always really fun. I like being on stage and I like acting," she said.

Gemma is following in the footsteps of her brother who has been in some shows.

“I thought it was really cool," she said. "I like singing and acting and dancing.”

She has advice for anyone interested in trying out but feels intimidated.

“I would tell them it’s not really that scary. You just have to pretend nobody is in the audience and just do your best,” Gemma said.
