Coming into tonight’s NBA Draft Lottery, the New Orleans Pelicans had a 20.2% percent to land a top-four pick and a 4.5% chance to claim this year’s No. 1 overall pick. But, unfortunately for the Pels, the more realistic outcome prevailed.

Fitting in with the majority 61% prediction, New Orleans landed the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 draft.

During tonight’s broadcast, each franchise had a representative present via video call. Pelicans’ VP of Basketball Operations Swin Cash was on screen when her team’s lottery pick came in.

Needless to say, she wasn’t too pleased with the outcome.

Cash gave a hilarious smirk and eye-roll to the camera as the Pelicans were given the No. 10 pick.

This reaction likely came because of the team’s surprising lottery luck from two years prior.

Back in 2019, the Pelicans held just a 6% chance to land the No. 1 overall pick. But, defying the odds, the New Orleans franchise was blessed with top-pick honors — claiming the right to draft rising-superstar Zion Williamson.

2019 was also the year in which Cash was hired as the team’s VP of Basketball Operations, making her the first woman in NBA history to land an executive role in basketball operations. Before her career as an NBA executive, she notched an incredibly impressive professional playing career — logging three WNBA titles, four All-Star appearances and two Olympic Gold medals.

Here’s the full list of this year’s lottery results:

  1. Detroit Pistons

  2. Houston Rockets

  3. Cleveland Cavaliers

  4. Toronto Raptors

  5. Orlando Magic

  6. Oklahoma City Thunder

  7. Golden State Warriors (via Minnesota Timberwolves)

  8. Orlando Magic (via Chicago Bulls)

  9. Sacramento Kings

  10. New Orleans Pelicans

  11. Charlotte Hornets

  12. San Antonio Spurs

  13. Indiana Pacers

  14. Golden State Warriors

The Pelicans are coming off a 31-41 regular season and their sixth-straight missed playoffs.
