Pedestrian injured after being hit by car in San Luis Obispo

A pedestrian was injured when he was hit by a car Sunday night in San Luis Obispo.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department received a report of the incident near the corner of Broad Street and Orcutt Road at 10:19 p.m., according to police scanner app Pulse Point.

According to a news release from the Police Department, San Luis Obispo Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a collision between a car and pedestrian in the 2900 block of Broad Street.

The pedestrian was a 65-year-old homeless man who suffered serious injuries, according to the release. He was transported to the hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, the release said. The release said drugs and alcohol were not suspected as a factor in the collision.

The Severe Collision Investigation Detail (SCID) Team responded to the scene to investigate and determine the cause.

San Luis Obispo Police Sgt. Joshua Walsh said officers responded to the scene at 10:30 p.m.

Walsh said the person suffered some injuries but is now in “stable condition.”

Passerby and freelance photographer Ford Whitefield-Brewer sent The Tribune videos of the aftermath, showing police cars and an ambulance.

Brewer said he saw the patient “bloodied and loaded into the ambulance.”
