Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams caused quite a social media stir a few days ago, invoking “The Last Dance” in an Instagram photo to hint at a potential departure. On Monday, Packers CEO Mark Murphy addressed what happened.

Speaking to the media during the Packers shareholders meeting, Murphy was asked for his thoughts on the hit ESPN docuseries “The Last Dance,” which brought a lot of laughs from the crowd, who knew what was really being asked. Murphy took it in stride though, dismissing the post from Rodgers as the two “having fun.”

But he added that he wouldn’t mind Rodgers finishing his career the way Michael Jordan did with the Bulls. Jordan capped off his Bulls career with an NBA title three-peat before retiring.

“I hope Aaron can win as many rings as Michael. That’d be a heck of an end to his career,” Murphy said.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been in a standoff for months. But on Monday it was reported that Rodgers intends to play for Green Bay this coming season.

However, while Mark Murphy may be hopeful that Rodgers brings a few more titles to Titletown, the separation could happen without that added bonus.

The Packers can pretty easily get out of Rodgers’ contract after the 2021 season. And with his successor waiting in the wings, it may be a tempting decision to make – regardless of how good Rodgers plays this year.

2021 could wind up being just as bonkers as the 1997-98 Bulls season was. That doesn’t mean it has the same ending though.
