One teenager was shot and another is facing charges, South Carolina police say
One teenager was shot Wednesday and another was locked up, according to the Sumter Police Department.
An 18-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Columbia where he’s being treated following what police called a “domestic-related shooting.” In a news release issued Thursday, police said that the teen was listed in stable condition in the morning, but further information on his condition was not available.
A 15-year-old is being held in a South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice facility, according to the release. The 15-year-old, whose name was not made public because he’s a minor, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a handgun by a person under 18 and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, police said.
The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon, and officers found the victim on Ash Street at about 2:45 p.m., according to the release. That’s in Sumter, near South Lafayette Drive.
Officers learned that the 18-year-old Sumter resident was parked in front of a residence on Barwick Drive when shots were fired into his vehicle, police said. He tried to drive away, but crashed and then ran to Ash Street where police were called, according to the release.
Barwick Drive is less than a mile from Ash Street.
The 15-year-old ran from Barwick Drive, but was soon located by officers and taken into custody, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about a motive for the shooting was not available, but it continues to be investigated by police.
