‘Nothing feels better than home’: Which North Crowley defensive tackle commit to TCU?

North Crowley’s Sterlin Brooks, a class of 2024 defensive tackle, announced his commitment to the TCU Horned Frogs on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s YouTube channel.

North Crowley High School is 11 miles away from Amon G. Carter Stadium. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram spoke with Brooks regarding his decision to commit to the Horned Frogs.

“Nothing feels better than home,” Brooks said.

With a 6-foot-5, 315-pound frame, Brooks was a staple of the Panthers’ defensive line, helping the team win 12 games and reach the 6A D1 region one semifinal. 247Sports gave Brooks a three-star rating and listed him as the No. 225 player in Texas.

Brooks, who can squat a whopping 635 pounds, chose the Frogs over SMU, Houston and Baylor. He said his relationship with TCU defensive line coach JaMarkus McFarland contributed to the decision.

“He can relate and feel what I’m going through and what I’ve dealt with,” Brooks said.

Brooks said he wants to compete for a College Football Playoff national championship and believes TCU has the ability to make it back.

He said defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie knows what he’s talking about and added opposing teams won’t enjoy facing TCU’s style of defense.

“It’s mean,” Brooks said. “It’s physical. It’s nasty.”

In 2023, Brooks and North Crowley will look to build on a successful season with second-year head coach Ray Gates. The Panthers are returning 12 starters.

“We’re competing for a state championship,” Sterlin said.

North Crowley will take on Arlington Sam Houston on Aug. 25 at C.H. Wilemon Field, opening the 2023 season on the road.
