Roger Goodell had a clear and to the point message for the NFL’s fan base this weekend: the stadiums will be packed this fall.

The NFL, which played 2020 games with limited capacity crowds, plans on having full capacity at games this fall.

“This year, we’re comfortable that local regulations are going to allow us to have fans at all 32 stadiums,” the commissioner said. “We’ll still be smart. We’re still going to be willing to adapt. We’re still going to do everything to make sure our fans are safe when they’re there. But we expect full stadiums.

“You know, the fans want to come back. That’s the No. 1 thing we hear. We’re seeing that in our ticket sales. Fans just want to be apart (of) and have that collective experience. Doing that around an NFL game is fun.”

NFL fans are loving the message. Football games just aren’t the same when the stadium isn’t packed. Hopefully we’ll get full-capacity crowds in safe fashion this season.

Goodell had another special message for the fans on Saturday.

Of course, having full capacity crowds might not be up to the NFL. Local and state regulations could prevent teams from having full capacity crowds.

“Unfortunately, not his call,” one NFL fan added in response to Goodell’s message.

While that’s true, we’re still more than a month away from the opening of the regular season. Hopefully we’ll be in a place by September to have safe, full-capacity crowds.

The 2021 NFL regular season is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Sept. 9 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Dallas Cowboys.
