On Friday afternoon, the football world learned that Carson Wentz’s career with the Indianapolis Colts is officially off to a terrible start.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Wentz is out indefinitely after suffering a foot injury. A later report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo added further concern to the injury.

Update on Colts QB Carson Wentz: He will see noted foot specialist Robert Anderson in the near future, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport,” Garafolo said. “A firmer timeline for his return will be established at that point. For now, the team is taking solace in Week 1 still being 6 weeks away.”

Unfortunately that’s not the worst of it. NFL insider Michael Silver added more details to the already-concerning injury update. Silver reported the injury to Wentz involves a bone and a ligament.

The Colts are reportedly bracing for Wentz to need surgery as a result.

Silver reported that Wentz “felt a pop” at practice on Thursday – which is never a good sign.

Hopefully whatever Wentz is dealing with can be fixed within the next six weeks before the 2021 season kicks off. It’s not how he would have liked to start his Colts career.

If Wentz were to miss time, Jacob Eason will likely serve as the starting quarterback. Former Texas star Sam Ehlinger is also on the roster.
