On Tuesday morning, NBA forward Chandler Parsons made a major announcement on his Instagram account. The former second-round pick has decided to retire.

“Man, I don’t even know where to begin… It’s been a crazy last couple years and has put a lot of things in perspective. I’ve had so many ups and downs and thankful for every single one of them,” Parsons wrote. “My entire life all I wanted to be was an NBA player. I didn’t even realize, or think what came with that, I just wanted to compete and play basketball at the highest level. I can proudly say, I did THAT! It wasn’t perfect, but it was a blast and I want to take a moment to thank every single person who helped me reach my dreams.”

Parsons, who was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 38th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, started his career on a really positive note. He made the All-Rookie Second Team for the 2011-12 season.

Once his stint with the Rockets came to an end, Parsons signed a long-term deal with the Dallas Mavericks. After a strong run in Dallas, he signed a four-year, $94 million contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. Injuries ultimately prevented him from ever living up to that contract.

Though his career wasn’t perfect, Parsons will be missed by fans all over the country.

“So sad his career ended like this,” one fan tweeted. “I enjoyed watching him when he was playing for the Rockets, Mavs.”

“Always a Rocket in my heart,” a Houston fan said in response to the news.

“Happy for him,” another fan said. “Truly.”

Parsons finished his career averaging 12.7 points per game.

We wish Parsons all the best as he enters the next chapter of his life.
