"Multiple explosions, fire and smoke" inside home in Southeast Austin: AFD

AUSTIN, Texas - Austin firefighters were on scene of a fire in Southeast Austin, where there were reports of a disturbance inside a home associated with "multiple explosions, fire, and smoke".

First responders were called out around 10 a.m. due to some kind of "disturbance," along with a fire and explosions, at a home on the corner of Pollo Dr. and Imperial Dr.

"There were some products inside the structure, like propane canisters, gas cans and stuff like that, that were close to the fire," said Division Chief Eddie Martinez with AFD. "So they were, what we call, exploding."

AFD says one person was burned and taken to the hospital after the fire broke out in the 4600 block of Imperial Dr.

They say the explosions were caused by nearby propane tanks that exploded because of the fire.

Officials say the fire is out, and crews are working to remove boards from windows to ventilate the building.

An AFD fire investigator was on their way, officials said. Austin Energy was also on the scene.

"When I come up on this road, and I see this in my neighborhood, I'm pissed," said Arthur Gonzalez, who lives close by. "We've got kids running around, and we got to put up with this crap every single day and night. There is not one day that there are not sirens going off."

Gonzalez has lived on Pollo Dr. for about a decade. He’s frustrated with everything from the property's trash that attracts neighborhood pests to safety concerns.

"Prostitution, drugs," he said. "We hear bullets every freaking night. I carry my pistol. I sleep with a pistol…We've had bullets hit our windows. And does anybody do anything? No."

FOX 7 Austin reached out to Travis County to see how many times law enforcement has responded to that property in recent months. We have yet to hear back.
