More cameras in Bibb County will crack down on speeding in school zones during school day
New speed cameras in four Bibb County school zones will start enforcing tickets over the coming weeks, officials said.
The cameras will crack down on speeding while school is in session and an hour before and after school.
Cameras were added to school zones near the Academy for Classical Education on New Forsyth Road and Bernd Elementary School on Ocmulgee East Boulevard. Drivers will initially receive warnings for speeding in these zones starting Monday. Citations will begin Monday, Oct. 21.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office will give citations for speeding in school zones near Vineville Academy of the Arts on Vineville Avenue and Heritage Elementary School on Thomaston Road starting Monday, the Telegraph previously reported.
Tickets will be issued for driving more than 10 mph over the posted speed limits. The first citation is $100, with additional fines $150. A flashing light will indicate when to drive at restricted speeds before and after school, but tickets will also be enforced for driving over the regular speed limit during the school day.
These citations will not affect a person’s driving record or insurance. Money from paid tickets will fund local law enforcement and public safety initiatives.
