MLB refutes Trump claim it invited him to World Series

ATLANTA — Before the World Series arrived in Atlanta, the Braves announced that former president Donald Trump would attend Saturday night's Game 4.

Saturday, just before 1:30 p.m. ET, Trump sent an email to his mailing list, which read, in full: "Looking forward to being at the World Series in Atlanta tonight. Thank you to the Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred, and Randy Levine of the great New York Yankees, for the invite. Melania and I are looking forward to a wonderful evening watching two great teams!"

MLB disputes Trump's characterization of events.

In a statement to Yahoo Sports' Hannah Keyser, MLB officials indicated that Trump, as previously reported, requested to attend the game.

In a USA Today story earlier this past week, Atlanta Braves CEO Terry McGuirk said, “He called MLB and wanted to come to the game. We were very surprised. Of course, we said yes.’’ MLB officials backed McGuirk's accounting of Trump's invitation.

Trump arrived at the box the Braves provided for him shortly before 8 p.m. He and wife Melania waved to onlookers from the box, located in the corner of the stadium down the right-field line. Both the former president and former First Lady participated in a pregame rendition of Atlanta's Tomahawk Chop.

The Braves did not show Trump on the stadium's screen prior to the game.
