Missouri lawmakers honor Chiefs, Nick Bolton with resolution by former KC cheerleader

Missouri lawmakers celebrated the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Monday with a resolution highlighting the team’s second championship in four years.

State Rep. Sherri Gallick, a Belton Republican, offered a resolution Monday congratulating the Chiefs and starting linebacker Nick Bolton, who on Sunday became the first former University of Missouri player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl. Gallick is a former Chiefs cheerleader.

House Speaker Dean Plocher, a St. Louis Republican, introduced Gallick as the representative from “the Mahomes district.”

“Being a Chiefs fan is not partisan,” Gallick said on the House floor, saying she’s had Chiefs season tickets for more than 30 years. House lawmakers erupted in applause after she read the resolution.

After a flurry of lawmakers strolled into the state Capitol donning red and yellow, the Missouri House suspended its dress code for the day — allowing legislators to wear Chiefs gear on the floor.

A copy of Gallick’s resolution, which did not require a vote, will be delivered to the Chiefs organization.

Bolton, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2021 draft led the Chiefs’ defense in tackles Sunday evening with nine. In the second quarter, the former University of Missouri Tiger scooped up a fumble by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown.

In Washington, U.S. Sens. Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt also sponsored a resolution honoring the Chiefs in the Senate.

“The Chiefs had a remarkable season, finishing strong with a hard-fought and well-deserved Super Bowl win,” Hawley said. “The Kansas City community could not be more proud of this team’s accomplishments, and we look forward to their continued success into the future.”
