Mindy Kaling Teases 'Complicated Relationship' With Former Co-Star B.J. Novak

"The 8th wonder of the world is the nature of Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak's relationship," one Twitter user joked.

While Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak broke off their romantic ties years ago, the pair have continued to send mixed signals about their not-so-simple relationship

The former costars on The Office dated from 2004 to 2007 and have since remained very close friends, although their fans have long speculated that they may end up dating again.

Kaling, 43, and Novak, 43, seemed to perpetuate the confusion during the 74th Annual Emmys on Sept. 12, where they hinted at their "complicated" relationship while presenting the award for Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series or Anthology Series Or Movie.

Not only was their chemistry off the charts, but The Mindy Project writer really enjoyed teasing her relationship with Novak.

"To all the nominees we want to say, congratulations you lazy sons of b******. How are you getting away with it? We did 22 [episodes] a year. It would take up your whole life. You had no choice but to form complicated relationship with your costars," Kaling joked.

Fans immediately noticed the moment, and many logged onto Twitter to voice their opinions about the beloved duo.

"My heart can't take the Mindy Kaling - BJ Novak reunion," one person wrote.

Another user quipped: "The 8th wonder of the world is the nature of Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak's relationship."

"I know it's not our business' but Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak can't just keep dangling whatever the hell is going on between them in front of us," someone else added.

Other users couldn't help but point out that the song "Baby Love" was playing as the pair presented, which led many to believe that the Emmys were hinting at the paternity of Kaling's children–something she has never publicly revealed.

"The way I screamed when 'baby love' played as Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak walked onstage...y'all are slick #Emmys2022" one person wrote on Twitter

Last month, Kaling addressed the rumors that Novak fathered her children, stating that the rumors don't "bother" her.

"He's the godparent to both of my kids—and they have such a great relationship—and so far [the rumors haven't] affected my happiness at all, it hasn't affected my kids or BJ," she explained, as Parade previously reported. "If that's what is going to be titillating to people, I'll take it."
