Memorial Day weather: Georgia's unstable air continues

ATLANTA - Georgia is preparing for another possible round of wind and rain after getting through a wave of severe weather on Memorial Day morning.

After a brief break in the action, some strong to severe storms are possible during the afternoon and evening Monday.

Spalding, Butts, Putnam, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Paulding, and Troup counties are under a Severe Thunderstorms Watch until 10 p.m.

The FOX 5 Storm Team says the air remains unstable in Georgia with the potential for a pop-up storm which could turn severe.

Damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible in the strongest storms that form, and a tornado or two cannot be ruled out.

A Flood Warning is in effect around Lookout Creek in Dade County until just after midnight.

Some parts of the state will remain dry for the rest of the day, and drier weather will sweep in overnight - leading to a quiet week.

Memorial Day weather: What to expect

Expect gusty winds in the 40 to 50 mph range. Severe storms could even produce gusts of over 60 mph.

Up to an inch of hail is possible.

A few tornadoes are possible across north Georgia, as strong as an EF-2. While the probability is very low, a brief tornado may even form farther south.

Trees and power lines may be downed in storms.

Officials are warning people interested in outdoor activities to pay attention to their local weather report for the potential for lightning strikes.
