Many gather to remember 10-year-old boy killed in Sanger. ‘Hit close to home’

Hundreds remembered 10-year-old Jameson Doyle who was killed by a truck March 7 in Sanger.

Mourners arrived at Rotary Field at 6 p.m. for a candlelight vigil to honor Doyle and his family.

Doyle was killed by a Chevrolet truck in Sanger on Cherry Avenue just east of Bethel Avenue about 6:20 p.m., Sanger police said. The truck driver stayed at the scene.

Doyle was on the minds of everyone that stood in the outfield, including Sanger Youth Baseball Association president Jared Krum.

“For so many of us, we watched our kids play baseball here night after night,” he told the mourners who held a candle. “Every spring, many of us have played ball here on the same field, making memories with our friends that last a lifetime.

“Jameson was no different. He played on all these fields, year-after-year since he was a little boy. The last several years, Jameson decided not to play baseball. There were other sports that won his heart. There he was, night-after-night, supporting his family and his friends at games and practices with a big smile on his face.”

Krum said this season will be honored for the boy’s family who many called Doyle “Jamo.”

Jacob Flores was with his mom, Vanessa Carrillo, and his dad, Daniel Flores, going around asking First responders and others in attendance to sign a baseball so he can give it to the Doyle family.

It was something he thought about for the past few days.

“To honor him,” the young Flores said.

His dad Daniel Flores said that the untimely death of Doyle “hit close to home.”

“We’re really big into the baseball community and it could happen to anybody, and just realizing how much he’s into the sport and it just hit home. All this baseball means is just whoever wants to sign it, no matter how you do it or if it’s overlapped, it’s something to give to the family and to honor him and remember him.”

Said Carrillo: “It’s a reminder to everybody like they say to hug your little ones everyday because you never know.”

A Mass and Celebration of Life will take place 1 p.m. March 23 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fresno.
