When Daniel Costner stopped to get a drink he decided to try his hand at a lottery game. So he grabbed a $30 Fabulous Fortune ticket.

Much to Costner’s surprise, he won.

“I was stunned,” Costner told lottery officials in a July 7 news release. “I had to sit there and look at it for a few minutes.”

The Taylorsville, North Carolina, resident won $100,000, which came out to $71,019 after the required state and federal tax withholdings. Costner bought his lucky ticket from the Market Basket in Taylorsville.

Fabulous Fortune is a new scratch-off game that debuted in North Carolina this month. The game offers six $3 million prizes and 18 $100,000 prizes. As of July 7, five $3 million prizes and 17 $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.

Another North Carolina man got lucky this week when he won $1 million from a $25 Spectacular Riches ticket he bought from Rite Stop Market in Burlington.

Anthony Pinnix, 46, told lottery officials that “it was a strong feeling in my gut that told me to get that ticket.”

In June, Kiara Carlton, a Winston-Salem resident, won $110,000 from a $1 Cash 5 Ticket at the Run-In in Wilkesboro, according to lottery officials.

Carlton told officials she uses the same lucky numbers — her family’s birthdays — every time she plays the lottery.
