Man charged with robbing 5 Central Kentucky convenience stores federally indicted

A Kentucky man who reportedly robbed multiple Lexington and Frankfort convenience stores in a single day is facing several charges in federal court.

Maurice Curry is charged with five counts of Hobbs Act robbery and four counts of possession of a firearm during a violent crime, according to court documents. The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce “in any way or degree,” according to the Department of Justice.

In the indictment returned on March 21, Curry is alleged to have robbed several convenience stores.

On Sept. 10, 2023, Curry entered Lex Liquor and a Speedway gas station on Tates Creek and held the clerks at gun point, according to court documents.

Later that same day, Curry allegedly entered three Frankfort stores — Katz Food Mart, Walgreens and a Shell gas station — and held them against their will to turn over products.

Court documents said Curry attempted to obstruct commerce and held clerks against their will through threatened force, violence and fear of injury.

Curry faces a maximum of 27 years in prison and fines up to $500,000, and eight years of supervised release if he is convicted. His court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
