Man accused of stealing mail truck in Wichita is arrested in Arkansas City

A 28-year-old Wichita man accused of stealing and running from police in a mail truck in March was arrested last week at a beef plant in Arkansas City.

On May 14, Arkansas City police responded to a suspicious person call at Creekstone Farms. Employees told officers that Ephesus Kago was at the plant and was believed to be under the influence, a news release from the Ark City Police Department said.

Officers found Kago, who was showing unusual behavior. He was taken into custody after officers found illegal substances on him, according to the release.

Authorities learned that Kago had an active warrant through the U.S. Attorney General’s Office for aggravated assault of a postal worker, Ark City PD said.

Kago was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on March 23 on charges of robbery, driving on a suspended license and fleeing from police, a jail booking report showed.

A Wichita police crime blotter for the same day he was taken into custody said that Kago pushed a postal worker out of a mail truck in northwest Wichita and was later spotted by an officer attempting to flee in the mail truck.

A short pursuit ensued where Kago ditched the mail truck and fled on foot before being apprehended by police, according to the blotter.

Kago remains in custody on suspicion of obstructing law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and the federal warrant, according to the Ark City PD release.

Authorities in Wichita spelled his name as Ephesus. The Ark City police news release spelled it as Esphesus and a spokesperson for Ark City did not immediately respond to a question on the spelling of his name.
