🌱 Lunar New Year Celebration In Flushing + Evie Hantzopoulos​

Here are the top three stories in Queens today:

  1. A Flushing shopping center will be hosting a Lunar New Year celebration later this month. Ring in the Year of the Tiger with the free celebration at The Shops at Skyview, in partnership with the New York Chinese Cultural Center and the Queens Botanical Garden. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on the fourth floor near the F21 Red store. (Flushing Post)

  2. A two-vehicle car crash on the Grand Central Parkway caused injuries on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred on the Parkway near Exit 10E-W in the Forest Hills section of Queens at around 1:20 p.m., and caused severe delays in the area as crews worked to clear the scene. The incident is under investigation and an undisclosed number of people were transported to area hospitals for care. (Local Accident Reports)

  3. An Astoria resident and Community Board 1 member has been named as the new executive director of The Queens Botanical Garden. On Jan. 24, Evie Hantzopoulos will take over for Susan Lacerte, who retired in Sept. after a 27-year tenure in the position. Hantzopoulos is an award-winning educator and non-profit leader with extensive experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, fundraising, and program development. (Astoria Post)
