New Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd is no stranger to the state of Texas. The Rangers, as a result, invited him out to Tuesday night’s game and gave him the opportunity to throw out the first pitch; it was a pretty decent toss, too.

Kidd had one goal for his first pitch Tuesday night. He didn’t care about throwing a strike as much as he did avoiding hitting the ground and bouncing the ball to the catcher. Mission accomplished.

Kidd’s pitch didn’t exactly make it over the plate, but it did make it to the catcher without hitting the ground. It wasn’t the worst toss we’ve seen on the mound this year (looking at you, Peyton Manning).

Take a look.

Jason Kidd is a former basketball player, so we’ll give him a pass here. Regardless, the new Mavericks coach has other things to worry about.

Dallas needs to make roster improvements this offseason, and it needs to do so in a hurry. Believe it or not, the 2021 NBA Draft is this coming Thursday, giving teams less than two days to ramp up trade talks.

The Mavericks need to find Luka Doncic a more suitable sidekick. Kristaps Porzingis can’t be a No. 2 option for a championship contender.

If Kidd can make a splash in the trade or free-agency market this offseason, he’ll have already made a strong impression with Mavericks fans.
