Every offseason, we hear rumors of John Calipari being interested in a return to the NBA. This year is no different.

This morning, Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach and Vincent Goodwill included Calipari on their list of 10 NBA head coaching candidates to watch. An anonymous “high-ranking executive” quoted in the piece pondered if Calipari, who is coming off a 9-16 campaign, may have “maxed out” at Kentucky.

“Calipari is a bit of a surprise here, but multiple sources tell Yahoo Sports Calipari would be open to jumping back into the NBA,” Rohrbach and Goodwill wrote.

As he always does whenever these reports and whispers pop up, Calipari publicly denied them this afternoon. He took to Twitter to issue his response.

“It’s that time of the year! Why do rumors always start when we’re in the middle of recruiting?” Calipari wrote. “I have the best job in the country w/ the best opportunity to impact young people & add value to their careers – and that hasn’t changed. This season can’t come fast enough! Let’s go!”

In sports, you never want to say never, especially when it comes to coaches jumping ship for the professional level. However, we’re inclined to believe it when we see it with Calipari.

These rumors have been so prevalent throughout his run at Kentucky, and they never amount to much. It’s tough to think this time will be any different.
