New look for an affordable home-cooking favorite restaurant in south Fort Worth

Hemphill Restaurant has new look, low prices

Hey, Bud! Did something change at Hemphill Restaurant? We go Sundays.

—Reader email

Like several cafes, Hemphill underwent remodeling but kept its inexpensive home-cooking breakfasts, chicken-fried steaks, $10 Tex-Mex combos and $15 carne guisada or steak platters.

Younger members of the Khan family gave it fresh paint and a new sign; 3208 Hemphill St., a half-mile west of Interstate 35W, facebook.com/hemphilldfw.

Lena Pope has DFW Restaurant Week list

Hey, Bud! Who is in charge of DFW Restaurant Week? I would like to contact her or him with a suggestion for the format of the online listing.

—Mary, Arlington

Philadelphia-based Audacy, formerly CBS, is kind to promote Restaurant Week. But the website is so clunky and frustrating, it hurts the charities.

The Lena Pope agency has a better Tarrant County chart at lenapope.org/dfwrestaurantweek.

(It’s a chance to try new restaurants like Don Artemio or Fitzgerald’s, or just go for a $39 dinner at Mac’s on Main or a whole month of Rise Souffles.)

Awaiting 3rd Street Market opening

Hey, Bud! When does that sourdough bread bakery-cafe open downtown?

—Instagram question at @BudKennedy

Everything is slow these days, including construction, hiring and inspections. Work continues on the Shaskans’ new 3rd Street Market, featuring Icon Bread.
