Live Wire: How is the North Carolina Veterans Park in Fayetteville maintained?

Q: Why is the North Carolina Veterans Park so dirty and uncared for? The fountains don't work, the art is deteriorating, weeds are everywhere, the glider benches to sit on have been removed, the lighting is dirty, and the security cameras are blocked by plant growth. The city agreed to take the responsibility to keep it maintained, so why aren't they? — W.T.

A: Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Director Michael Gibson said they welcome feedback from people who visit Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation sites.

The North Carolina Veterans Park, 300 Bragg Blvd., is open 8 a.m.-dusk and the visitor center is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until October. The park features natural and architectural elements that represent the state and symbolic features that pay homage to veterans from all of North Carolina's 100 counties, according to the Fayetteville Cumberland Parks and Recreation website.

The park also hosts small exhibits in the visitor center, highlighting various aspects of military heritage and history.
