A Clark County school employee has been suspended pending investigation of criminal charges against her regarding her son’s August birthday party at her home, according to court records and the district’s superintendent.

Rebecca Boyd, who Clark Superintendent Dustin Howard said was a suspended employee of the district’s Phoenix Academy, has been charged with 11 counts of unlawful transaction with a minor, according to online Clark district court records.

An Aug. 7 police citation said Boyd had 10 high school students at her home for her son’s birthday party. All had consumed significant amounts of alcohol during the night that also led to a sexual assault investigation by a detective.

Boyd told police she knew the kids were drinking and took control of most of their car keys. She also stated that she made them pancakes and hamburgers sometime around midnight that night on the evening of Aug. 7 into Aug. 8, the citation said.

Videos retrieved from that evening show kids engaging in sexual behavior and destruction of furniture. Videos also show lengthy games of beer pong and at least one child passed out in the front yard, the citation said.

An arraignment is set for Nov. 18 in Clark District Court.

“I can confirm Ms. Boyd is an employee at Phoenix Academy, but has currently been placed on administrative leave with a suspension until the investigation has been completed,” Howard told the Herald-Leader Thursday in an email.

School district officials sent the Herald-Leader a statement from Howard on Wednesday that said, “We are aware of the recent development concerning a Phoenix employee. We have learned that this employee has been charged with an offense related to an incident that occurred off district property over the summer. In response, the employee has been placed on leave pending further investigation and the resolution of the matter.

“Please rest assured that the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We are committed to maintaining a secure and supportive environment. Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in Clark County Public Schools,” the statement said.

According to its website, the Phoenix Academy provides individualized education for students.
