This Kentucky restaurant serves some of ‘The Best Fried Chicken in America,’ Eater says

This National Fried Chicken Day, Kentucky food fans can check out a local restaurant that’s been nationally recognized for its signature dish.

Louisville’s Chik’n & Mi was recognized June 29 in Eater’s “The Best Fried Chicken in America” list.

The list celebrated 27 fried chicken joints across the country, with restaurants in Hawaii, Seattle and more.

Chik’n & Mi dishes up Asian fusion cuisine, featuring fried chicken battered in rice and tapioca flour, pork belly steam buns and kimchi mac and cheese.

Other menu spotlights include fried cauliflower, miso sesame salad, mango beignets and fried chicken and waffles.

Eater’s list lauded Chik’n & Mi’s unique sandwiches, which pair fried chicken with kimchi slaw and more toppings.

“Husband-and-wife owners Jason McCollum and Aenith Sananikone-McCollum offer fried thighs in sandwiches made with kimchi slaw, black garlic aioli, and pickled cucumbers on brioche buns; steamed buns stuffed with chicken, marinated cucumber, hoisin, hot mustard, and pickled red onion; chicken with waffles at brunch; and mixed pieces tossed with sauces like jeow bong or Sichuan peppercorn ranch,” Lennie Omalza wrote for Eater.

There are plenty of side order options, including bonito fries, bok choy, street corn and Asian slaw.

Along with the wide variety of fusion dishes, Chik’n & Mi also offers seasonal dinner cocktails. There’s “Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne” (featuring gin, elderflower liqueur, clove and fennel syrup and prosecco), the “Tuesday Moon” (fig-washed brandy, creme de cassis, lemon and Jamaican No. 2 bitters) and four other current selections.

For those scoping out a deal, check out happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The offers only apply to dine-in orders, and you can get oysters for $1.75 each, $4 for three tofu lettuce wraps and $5 salads.

Chik’n & Mi is located at 1765 Mellwood Ave. in Louisville. It’s open for dinner from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

You can enjoy brunch specials like a breakfast burrito, chicken benedict, ramen and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
