Kenny Mayne, Cari Champion Reportedly Land New Job
Two of the most popular anchors ESPN has seen in recent years have landed new gigs for this summer. Cari Champion and Kenny Mayne will anchor a nightly series for NBC Sports during the Tokyo Olympics.
Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports was first to report the news. He spoke to Champion about the move and what sports fans can expect from this new series.
“We will be doing interviews, we will be doing highlights, and we’re going to make it our own,” Champion told McCarthy, via Front Office Sports.
Champion never worked alongside Mayne during her time at ESPN, but she’s clearly excited about this new opportunity with NBC Sports.
“The person I’m going to be working with has a really great personality, he’s funny, and we have a good time together. While we both worked at ESPN for as long as we worked, I never once had the opportunity to host a show with him.”

Champion’s tenure at ESPN ended toward the start of 2020, whereas Mayne’s final show with the Worldwide Leader In Sports actually took place last month. He had a handful of special guests on the show, such as Jamal Crawford, Marshawn Lynch and Aaron Rodgers.
This series featuring Champion and Mayne is set to begin on July 23.
