KC Royals manager Matt Quatraro set to miss second game due to personal matter

Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro will miss his second consecutive game to attend to what the club is terming a personal matter.

Bench coach Paul Hoover will serve as the acting manager on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians.

Hoover has filled in for Quatraro a few times with the Royals. He managed from June 23-24 earlier this season. Last year, Hoover stepped into the role after Quatraro tested positive for COVID-19.

The Royals coaching staff will be shuffled in the meantime. Third base coach Vance Wilson is now serving as the bench coach. Infield coach Jose Alguacil has stepped in as the third base coach.

The Royals continue a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Both teams are battling for first place in the American League Central.

Entering Tuesday’s action, the Royals (75-64) had a 4 1/2 game lead over the Red Sox (70-68) for the final AL Wild Card spot. The Royals are one game behind the Minnesota Twins (75-62) and 4 1/2 games behind the Guardians (79-59) in the AL Central.
