The Johnson County Whole Foods is relocating. Here’s the superstore that’s moving in

Georgia-based PGA Tour Superstore plans to open its first Kansas City area store in Overland Park.

It sells golf, tennis and pickleball apparel, accessories and footwear for the family, along with equipment and technology such as GPS units, rangefinders, simulators, launch monitors and swing analyzers. No opening date has been announced.

The 29,000-square-foot store will be in The Fountains at 6621 W. 119th St. It will have Practice & Play hitting bays — currently only available at its new Milwaukee store. It also will have a large putting green.

The Overland Park store will have the chain’s new Practice & Play hitting bays like the one in the new Milwaukee store.

It has 58 stores in 22 states but none yet in Kansas or Missouri.

According to the company, there were 3.3 million beginner golfers in 2022, the third year in a row that the sport attracted 3 million new golfers.

They said the number of women golfers also is increasing — 25% of players are women and 40% of new players are women. The fastest growing segment of golf is millennials.

Whole Foods Market currently operates in the Overland Park space, but it will move to the southwest corner of 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

In August 2021, Legacy Development said it had signed Whole Foods to that new location, in the Overland Crossing development.

At the time, a Whole Foods Market spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that a store in Overland Park, KS is in development. At this time, I do not have additional information to share.” Officials couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday or Friday morning.

Legacy Development said Whole Foods is scheduled to open in Overland Crossing in October.
