Johnson County deputy shot while trying to arrest suspect fleeing Tarrant authorities

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy is expected to make a full recovery after he was shot while trying to arrest a suspect fleeing from Tarrant County authorities, according to a news release.

Deputy Austin Reed was shot around 9:30 p.m. Sunday while trying to subdue the suspect, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities have not released the name of the suspect.

Johnson County deputies became involved when Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office deputies chased a vehicle into the county, according to the release. The people inside the car ran into a house near Mansfield in Johnson County and local deputies followed, making entry to arrest the driver.

The Sheriff’s Office said it was while Reed was trying to subdue a suspect, who was resisting, that he was shot in the hip. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Texas Rangers, who regularly investigate shootings involving law enforcement, took over the scene and will be leading the investigation.

The driver was arrested and other occupants were detained and taken to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

In a separate incident on Monday, Fort Worth police Sgt. Billy Randolph was killed when he was hit by a suspected drunken driver while working at a crash scene on Interstate 35W.
