Impossible Pork named one of Time’s ’100 Best Inventions Of 2020′

The plant-based food business is about to go ham!

Impossible Foods’ plant-based pork alternative that was unveiled at a major tech show earlier this year has made it onto Time Magazine’s “100 Best Inventions of 2020” list.

The food-tech innovator was recognized for its forthcoming product that “uncannily tastes like the real deal.”

The plant-based substitute is made from soy and designed to mimic ground meat from pigs. Impossible Pork is also free of gluten, animal hormones, antibiotics and designed for kosher and halal certification.

“The world’s most-consumed animal protein is pork — and its farming results in a slew of environmental issues, including pollution due to swine waste,” Time’s editorial director Nadia Suleman noted. “Impossible Pork is made from soy…While the favorable environmental impacts of a pork alternative are clear, plans for a commercial rollout of Impossible Pork are still in the works.”

The meatless product is featured on the list alongside Air Vodka and The Greater Good Fresh Brewing Co Pinter in the Food & Drink category.

Nominations from editors and correspondents around the world go through an online application process. Then, Time evaluated them on “factors including originality, effectiveness, ambition, and impact.”

The Silicon Valley-based company has not announced when the plant-based pork will be available in supermarkets.
